Washing Hands – A Simple Rewarding Habit

With sudden spurt in the swine flu cases, the first and foremost preventive action that helps in spreading of H1N1 virus is proper hand hygiene. The H1N1 virus is transmitted through mucus secretions, in form of droplets during coughing and sneezing, so being in contact or touching contaminated things aids in faster transmission of the disease.

Washing your hands properly doesn’t mean washing just for the sake of washing it with soap and water. It takes 20 secs to wash it properly. Research says that though substantial evidences are available to support the role of hand hygiene in spreading of diseases yet only 5% of people actually wash hands correctly.

The alcohol based sanitizer works equally well in maintaining hand hygiene where the availability of soap and water is difficult. The ideal way to practice hand hygiene properly is to wash hands frequently and just follow the simple instructions given below:

Step 1 & Step 2: Wet hands with water and apply enough soap

Step 3: Rub hands palm to palm

Step 4: Rub back of each hand with palm of another

Step 5: Rub palm to palm with fingers interlaced

Step 6: Rub back of fingers with opposing palm

Step 7: Rub each thumb clasped in opposite hand

Step 8: Rub tips of finger in opposite palm

Step 9: Rub and wash up to wrist

Step 10: Rinse hands with water

Step 11 &Step 12: Dry thoroughly.

Proper hand hygiene by washing or sanitizing your hands doesn’t take much time but following this habit frequently gives a reward of well being and good health!

Swine Flu –Bin It!

If you are suffering from symptoms such as running nose, fever, cough and cold, loose motion, body ache then don’t just ignore it by assuming it to be simply any other viral infection. As you might be suffering from the symptoms of swine flu.

According to Ministry of Health, there is a sudden spurt in swine flu cases. 6,298 laboratory tests have confirmed cases of H1N1 influenza virus A reported from across the country. Since this virus has the ability to mutate thus the patients may not always complain of high fever but just sore throat and loose motion.

Swine flu is a contagious viral infection that is transmitted to human from the pigs. Anyone or everyone is susceptible to this virus. Young children, elderly people and immuno compromised people are more likely to get the infection. The infection doesn’t spread from eating cooked pig meat, but transmitted from person to person through droplets containing virus during coughing or sneezing.

Patients develop severe respiratory infection but usually die of respiratory failure or secondary bacterial infections of lungs like pneumonia, sepsis, neurological problems and dehydration.

Vaccines are available to beat this virus however the effectiveness of the vaccine is still in question.

Prevention is always better than cure!

The best way to prevent yourself from this tricky virus is to avoid going to crowded places or at least be away from persons showing such symptoms. Wearing mask can avoid being in contact with the droplets though it gives only 50% protection. In Addition washing and sanitizing of hands properly, throwing of the used napkins into the bin after use can help in arresting the infection. Patients can transmit the infection to other people 8-10 days after  the first symptoms strikes.

Many researchers have suggested that keeping yourself well hydrated, taking good health supplement, taking proper rest may aid in faster recovery and strengthening immune system to fight the infection.

Need Of A Health Supplement

“Let food be your medicine & medicine be your food.

If we believe that we will get everything from food then probably we are harbouring a wrong theory. As today the food that we consume are loaded with pesticides and other harmful chemicals or genetically modified and grown to improve the appearance and crop yields but lacks the nutritional value. The same is true with water, soil and the air around us. In nutshell, the pollution and toxins makes our diet depleted in the amount of nutrients required daily. In Addition to pollution, the escalation in the use of medicines have also made us vulnerable to such deficiencies.

Thus a supplementation along with a healthy diet and healthy lifestyle is important for optimal health. Though a supplementation does not necessarily promise a better health yet we need it to detoxify the toxins from the body and ensure meeting the daily requirements.

Salveo Andaman Noni, the fruit of Morinda citrifolia is one such universal health supplement which not only boosts your immunity and acts as an antioxidant but at the same time this humble fruit from the virgin islands of Andaman and Nicobar has profound positive effects on health.

It is one of the few fruits that have been classified as “Super fruit” due to its amazing arsenal of neutraceuticals and remarkable health benefits.

So beginning your day with Salveo Andaman Noni will essentially make you feel  more energetic  and give a feel of general well being. It is not that I am asserting  it to be so, however  countless people suffering from wide variety of health conditions have been truly benefited from it. Besides this many health professionals ,heavy laboratory experiments and clinical trials have additionally acclaimed it.

Choose Right, Live Life

Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. About 70% of world’s cancer deaths occur in Africa, Asia and Central and South America. By and large people believe Cancer to be a sheer bad luck. But according to WHO around one third of cancer deaths are generally a result of inappropriate lifestyle choices, which people are not aware of. And experts say that it can be prevented to some extent by making some minor changes in the lifestyle.

Here are some of the tips that may help to reduce the risk of cancer.

  • Quit smoking and avoid drinking: 90% of lung cancer cases are related to tobacco smoking. A research study has indicated that quitting smoking has lowered the risk of cancer in lungs, mouth, throat and larynx. It is not that everyone who drinks alcohol develops cancer yet unquestionably, there is a correlation between the two and people who drink and smokes at the same time multiply the risk of developing it.

  • Exercise regularly: Being physically active or regular exercising for at least 30 minutes often improve the physical condition and overall quality of life.

  •  Eat balanced diet: A balanced diet comprising of fruits, vegetables, dairy food and rich in fibres may reduce the chances of having cancer. But at the same time you should cut down on consumption of trans and saturated fats. These fats are referred as ‘bad fats’ and red meat ,doughnuts, fast foods, fried food are the common sources of such fats.

    •  Avoid prolonged exposure to sun: Vitamin D, a very important component of sunlight is essential for proper maturation and reproduction of cell. Lack of this vitamin may lead to risk multiple cancers but this exposure to sun for generating vitamin D is necessary just for few minutes. Staying out in sun for long hours may increase likelihood of having skin cancer. So, try wearing light coloured clothes and applying sunscreen lotion before stepping out.
    •        Regular cancer screening: If you have a family history of cancer then you should probably go in for cancer screening tests as these tests may increase the possibilities of early diagnosis and treatment.
