Did you know that your skin is the largest
organ of your body? It accounts for around 15 percent of the total body weight.
This includes the different types of glands, nail and hair. Your age shows the
most on skin. Skin is the major indicator of health, youth and vitality. The
skin has two layers namely epidermis and dermis. The former protects our skin
from the harmful ultraviolet rays while the latter has abundant blood vessels
through which nutrients are supplied to our skin. The three basic functions of
the skin include:
- Protects you from skin infection caused by bacteria and viruses
- Help you with sensing the outer world like heat or cold
- Regulating your body temperature
For most people, perfect skin is a distant
dream. A walk through a drug store or an hour in front of the television is
enough to convince anyone of the importance of healthy skin. The following are
some of the most common skin disorders:
- Moles, nearly 100 % (National Cancer Institute)
- Skin cancer, nearly 20 % across the globe with a lifetime prevalence (The Skin Cancer Foundation 2012)
- Psoriasis, 2 to 3% worldwide (National Psoriasis Foundation 2012)
- In 2006, more than 30 million people visited health-care providers for skin rashes
- Around 85 percent of all people have acne at some point of their lives. This is mostly on the face, neck and chest
- WHO’s 2001 reports suggest that the global burden of diseases implied that skin diseases were associated with mortality rates.
- Prevalence of skin disease in developing countries range from 20 to 80 percent (WHO’s survey)
The two major
types of skin diseases are Psoriasis and Eczema.
Psoriasis
This affects the skin and causes thick red
marks that look like scales. This is a result of a rise in the number of skin
cells. At times pus-filled blisters are noticed as well. Psoriasis can occur in
any part of the body but mostly it affects the elbows and knees. One of the
most important causes of Psoriasis is the immune system. Normally, white blood
cells produce antibodies to foreign invaders like bacteria and viruses. Again,
the white blood cells produce chemicals that help in healing and fighting
ineffective agents. In Psoriasis however, the white blood cells make the body
fight normal tissues in the skin and joints. At this time the white blood cells
also produce an abnormal rate of healing agents that cause inflammation in the
skin and joints.
Eczema
Eczema encompasses a lot of inflamed skin
conditions. Atopic Dermatitis is one of the most common forms of eczema. The
condition is related to an abnormal response of the immune system of the body.
In this case, the inflammatory response to irritating substances overreacts
leading to itching and scratching.
The Unique Combination of Substances in
NONI
As we have mentioned earlier, immunity
plays a very important role in disorders like Psoriasis and Eczema. NONI
possesses a wide variety of necessary minerals and beneficial phytochemicals. Some
of these phytochemicals are not found in any other plant. They work in a
synergy to modify the immunity power of our body. With our immune system
functioning properly, we can prevent a lot of diseases including obstinate skin
disease. NONI has an impressive combination of nutritive constituents. It
comprises of a rich complement of vitamins and minerals which include A, B,
B-12, C, E, iron, calcium, sodium, potassium, zinc and a lot of trace minerals.
It also has around 20 amino acids. Compounds like terpenes, fungicides,
adaptogens, glycosides. Polysaccharides and several other unique ingredients
that even in small amounts can have significant physiological effects. All
these compounds are present in the NONI fruit. It is because of these compounds
that NONI can stimulate the immune system, regulate proper cell function,
increase the ability of the cells to absorb the nutrients and regenerates the
damaged cells.
The Most Unique Element
The
most unique ingredient present in NONI is an alkaloid known as xeronine.
Xeronine renders a lot of services to our body like activating inactive
enzymes, improving cellular function and regulating many proteins in the body.
Another substance present in NONI is proxeronine. According to a research
conducted by Dr. Ralph Heinecke, proxeronine can be stored in the liver and can
be used to convert to xeronine as and when needed.

The different substances found in NONI fruit support the needs of many of
our internal systems. Some of these substances work much better in combination
than they do individually. NONI therefore highly aids the natural healing
abilities of the body. With age, the skin loses its natural glow and it becomes
rough and dry. This is primarily because with ageing, there is a decrease in
the moisture of the stratum corneum or the vertical height of the epidermal
cells. NONI acting like humectants helps in retaining the moisture content of
the cells. This keeps our skin smooth and wrinkle free and stops it from
becoming rough and dry.
